Club Information

The LLEYN MODEL AERO CLUB operates at the old PENRHOS airfield now known as PEN Y BERTH. Situated approximately 4 miles west of Pwllheli on the road to Abersoch,.

As the flying site is close to the Pen y Berth Caravan Site please report to the Site Manager’s office for access.

We fly all types of radio controlled model aircraft at Penrhos and gliders on the slopes.

Gliding sites are available for virtually any wind direction. The slopes mainly used are in NW, W and SW wind directions. These are at CILAN HEAD near Abersoch and ABERDARON. However in Northerly winds RHIW Mountain and the RIVALS may be used.

A caravan on the flying field serves as a headquarters and is available to members.

There are facilities for making tea, coffee, chocolate etc.

There are no toilets on the site.

The Club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association. All club members who fly must be members of the BMFA. The fee for this provides third party insurance cover which is essential when flying model aircraft and is collected with the club fee.

At the flying sites members have a duty of care for the safety and welfare of all present. Parents or guardians must accompany their children or vulnerable adults at all times. No club member can be expected to take responsibility for other people’s children.

Instruction is available for newcomers to the sport and existing members are very pleased to help with advice for anyone building or flying models for the first time.

Subscriptions are payable from lst. January for the year. However members joining in October will get 15 months Club membership. The BMFA fee must be paid for the next year.
